I rode with Ned!!!
Okay ladies and gentlemen, I have on heck of a story!
My friend and I stopped by the local audi dealership in search of an
'84-87 4000 Quattro (if anyone knows of any for sale in the northwest, do
post!). We had just left empty handed and were heading to the next
dealership when my frind pointed at a 5000 in the oncoming lanes with a
really cool pair of driving lights mounted on the bumber. I took one
look and got REALLY excited. I hung a uie and started to follow "the
beast." After about 2 miles Ned got the idea that I was following him,
and after turning onto an uphill road, gave the throttle a blip and left
me in the dust BIG TIME!!! I guess a car with FOUR HUNDRED more
horsepower than me would tend to do that 8^)
We followed him to what turned out to be his daughter's shop, where we
hopped out and introduced ourselves. He took us for a ride in his
daughter's '84 4000q after he learned that we are in the market for one.
Its basically stock, except for a different cam and advanced timing. Fun
car, great suspension. We returned to the store and I thanked him for
the ride and was about to go on my way when he said, "wait, we're only
half done." With that we hopped over to the beast and went out for some
real driving. I have to brag about one point: I've been in a turbo audi
and witnessed the boost guage reach 2.7 bar! I have to tell you the
experience was phenominal! The only problem was that the car was almost
out of gas, so every time we went around a corner hard, the engine would
cut out. Both my friend and I came out of that experience with smiles
from ear to ear. It was great! That car has got to be the most
beautiful vehicle I've ever seen too. The driving lights on top of the
bumper, the suspension, the wheels, the rear spoiler, and that
exhaust...it was really something!
