1. It is possible to rebuild the pumps yourself. Carlsen ( Linda ) will
sell you an original Audi kit for ~$25. PAP will sell you a kit for
$15 on sale, but it is locally pieced together. The biggest problem
in rebuilding was getting the "X" caps out, ( in my case, original
pump, never opened, '86 vintage )

Change EVERY SINGLE O-RING in the pump, don't forget the one below the pressure
relief valve.

Take EXTREME CARE with cleanliness. One technique I used was to keep the rubber
O-rings DRY, and ONE of the mating surfaces of a rotating pair dry as well.
( i.e. a pair of surfaces that move relative to each other during re-assmbly ).
This helps keep the O-ring in place when you screw back the "X" caps, if they
are slippery, they may "squirm" a bit and get twisted while you tighten
them down. And I do mean TIGHTEN THEM DOWN. I ignored the torque specs., figured
that someone at the factory had really tightened them to get me the 8 years
of leak-free service, and I could put it back the same way.

2.PAP will sell you a locally re-built pump for $179 ( on sale... or with a bit
of persuading.) They speak highly of their re-builder.

3. Your friendly local dealer...... ( try Carlsen unless you are on great terms
with your local dealer.
