'85 GT stabilizer bar link rod

I've seen some talk recently about being sure that the stabilizer link
rod on the stabilizer bar (anti-roll bar) needs to go on in the same way
at it came off.  What would happen if you put it in backwards (upside-down)?
Can it even go in backwards?

My stabilizer link rods don't even look like that in the Bentley, and I
never check them before taking them off.  I've always wondered why my father's
'82 Coupe outhandles my '85, with ease.  Could this be a reason?
