Check Engine Light "ECS" on 89 200TQ
Bob,
In the Audi service publication "1989 New Model Introduction Information" they note that on
the 200 Turbo/Quattro models the "check engine light" is no longer used. They no longer use
this check engine light to flash out the ECU fault codes. If you want to get the fault codes out
of the ECU you now need to use an LED (with resistor) indicator light that must be plugged
into the 3 pin diagnostic connector located underneath the dashboard (drivers side). The
vehicles operators manual does describe this "check engine" indicator light but it has a
disclaimer * indicating "where applicable".
Bob, concerning your idle problems, have you checked your idle/full throttle switch yet
for a bad internal solder joint?
