On the strut replacement, wouldn't the spring have a chance
to come out of the cups as the strut housing is allowed to 
move once the strut is out. I am not seeing how the strut 
would stay in place or does having the wheel touching the 
ground kep it in place. Sounds interesting.

I did something kind of similar with my '66 BMW 1800ti. 
I installed the spring compressors with the tire on the 
ground and then jacked it up and was able to get the strut
out of the wheel well.
