Re: Car-phone hook-up in 100S

I accidentally sent a reply to this to quattro@coimbra.ans.com
so apologies if it makes it through to the list twice.

Henrick,

I recently installed a cell phone in my wifes 100S. My company
uses a cell service that also sells phones (arr, arr, arr) without
the service contract. I got a Motorola and installed it in the
F*** Bronco and then when we got the '92 100S, I had the tech
guy look at the Audi and we found that it was pre-wired.

The RJ45 in the console between the seats accepts the Motorola
handset and the wires end up in the trunk on the left side. The
power unit will accept the Audi plug that carries the power and
communication.

The antanna wire is tucked up in the headliner but requires a small
adaptor for a US antanna. The antanna wire for some inexplicable reason
runs down the right c pillar and the right side of the trunk across the
back of the trunk to end up neatly on the left side by the power plug.
Hand set, power unit and antanna is all that it takes to hook it up.
The glass even has some marks to help align the antanna!

The dilemma is with how to mount the handset. The cell phone armrest
is $500+ from the dealer. The other way to mount the handset is with a
flex stalk. We did not like either solution so the phone just sits
in the bin between the seats. This precludes the "hands free"
usage but that's OK.

All in all, having the car prewired make the install real slick.
