Bingo Peter.
If we read our K&N box it claims that it filters smaller particles than 
the stock paper one. The only way to do this is with a finer mesh, which 
in turn clogs up quicker. Just because you have a K&N doesnt mean you can 
ignore it! When its clean, it breathes better than stock, but when its 
dirty....!  Clean it just as often as you would replace a stock one...I 
clean mine more often.
