I removed the intake/exhaust manifold, and head on my 5000cstq today to
check for the dreaded cracked exhaust manifold. As I suspected, the exhaust
manifold was cracked and leaking around cylinder no. 4. I intend to replace it
with the updated two-piece manifold. Am I correct that this manifold was used on
the '89 later 10v turbos? Where is the best place to find this used and what is
the going price? The manifold also appeared to be leaking around cylinder no.1.
Do these tend to pull studs, and if so what should I do?
I also removed the crankshaft. The rearmost bearing was very grooved on all
surfaces. All the other bearings were fine. Should I worry about it? Also, what
would be a good plan of action on the head. Should I pull the valves, lap them,
or what? I don't have a ton of money to spend on it right now and I would
appreciate any suggestions. By the way the car has 150,000 miles on it.
