That is exactly what I thought until glen challenged me on the Diff ratio
about 2 years ago. Turns out it is a combination of 5th gear and diff
ratios. otherwise, you'd end up with a gear set with ratios that are truely
unique in the audi VW world. I spent quite a bit of time testing each gear
on my '87 and the ratios are the same as the literature for the first 4
gears. 5th and final are both different from the '84 and the literature. The
'87 does ~22mph/1000rpm with stock 195x60x14 tires.
