Re: I5 big valves, headers, Olympia Rally

Info on the Olympia and other PRO rallies can be accessed on the WWW. Find
Ben's Rally Page (address given several issues ago in the digest) with your
browser under "rally". He has the complete schedule, contact names, etc. for
all of 1996.

Have been lurking and gathering opinion regarding improvements to the I5 10v
engine. My non-turbo 86 Coupe has rather liesurely acceleration, what with
only 115hp. I don't need a silly or expensive super car, but do want hp
around the 150 range. I've obtained the obligitory 4csq manifold and
headpipe, and am beginning a search for a low cost 2.3 engine. I've
ascertained that the way expensive Schrick 272 is a requirement no matter
what. What about these big valves, head work, etc.? Where does one get big
valves? And is the (pricey?) Eurorace header a better answer than the 4csq
manifold setup? Lastly, have I properly deduced that the Eurovan crank will
NOT work in a standard 2.3 block with the same rods, etc. (I got a bit lost
on that thread)?

One quick comment on the 90-91 Coupe Quattro: I was afraid of the headroom
also, so I annoyed a salesman at the dealer to just let me sit in one
(wouldn't let me drive it, since I wasn't willing to discuss price--stuck up
losers). I'm 6', and headroom sensitive moreso than most folks my height. I
fit fine, without adjusting the seat height. Am now just waiting for the
resale value on these to plummet to what I paid for my '86 ;)
