Re: pistons

I don't have a direct source for pistons. And I can't attest to quality or
longevity of any manufacurers pistons. When I talked to Ron at Ron's parts
about my idea of using the Eurovan crank (fall '84) his first thought was
that pistons could be the major problem. I suggested the pistons he and
other tuners were using in their 2.0 litre VW's with the 94.5mm stroke.
Milling 0.5mm from the tops would not be a problem. It is possible that
there is enough deck clearence that nothing has to come off the top of the
piston. In that case static compression on a 10V would be about 10.7:1. I
know that Tectonics used to sell these pistons in 10:1 and 8.5:1
configurations. I've heard that Tectonics no longer has these in stock as
they are doing their builds with the factory 92.5/8mm crank now. I'd check
with Ron's, Eurospec, and other VW tuners. Perhaps there is a vendor on this
list that would care to enlighten us on this subject. Eurorace sells a
forged piston, don't know who makes it though. Seems to me there are enough
of those stroked VW's out there we could get some sense of quality.

with my local dealer, EV crank is approx. $900. but none are available in
US. However, I did locate 2 motors from salvage yards. Whatever I hear will
be checked fully by a top automotive engineer. Whatever he says is gospel.
