I have this on my '89 100Q, too.
The problem is dirty contacts for the check display behind the
instrument cluster. Mike LaRosa has fixed his; it's pretty easy.
Some day I'll fix mine.
This display is NOT related to any of the warning LEDs on the dash,
so don't worry about them.
Also, don't let the dealer tell you that you need a new auto-check
computer; mine tried to screw me out of close to $1000 for a 5-minute
job cleaning the contacts.
