V8 auto trans replacement
I, too have had my automatic transmission replaced ('90V8Q.) In the
summer of 1994, I was driving over Berthoud Pass in Colorado at 12000
feet, with a full load of luggage and people and noticed white smoke
behind me. I pulled over, looked underneath and saw a fluid dripping out
(I think it was clear). I figured it was hitting the exhaust system and
creating smoke. I completed my trip with no other problems and upon my
return to Denver took the car to Prestige Imports. They related that
they felt it was a seal of some sort but "behold" the Audi rep was by and
said Audi would throw in a new transmission ($5500, give or take) if I
would just pony up the labor ($750 or so). I was lucky I had bought an
extended warranty which covered the labor. I did end up paying less than
$100 for shop materials not covered by the warranty. I continue to this
day to not really know if there was a real problem or if it was just a
money making deal for the dealer. That was 30,000 miles ago and no
problems at all since then. I love my V8!!
