     Mason, The only way to get them out is through the vents. You have to 
     pull the vent out and unbolt the speaker assembly from the bottom. 
     This is a one piece unit, speaker ,grill, mounting and all. You'll 
     need to replace it with OEM unless you or a QUALIFIED installer can do 
     some surgery and remove the oem spkr from the grill and substitute.

Dear Quattrophiles-
     
I am looking at replacing my front speakers, and I was wondering which 
side provides easiest access (top or bottom)?
     
Is removing the vents the only wy to get in there, or is it possible to 
remove the speaker grill on top of the instrument panel?
     
Any other tidbits of useful knowledge in this area would be appreciated!
