Subject: location of 5KTQ knock sensor
preston:
if i remember correctly, the knock sensor is near the front of the engine
on the driver's side, a coupla inches above the oil pan, hidden under
a coolant connection, behind various wires, hoses and brackets that are
designed to make it impossible to see or touch, let alone get a
steenkeen torque wrench in there! i might be exaggerating a bit so i'm
looking for someone to back me up here.
it looks like a black plastic doohickey about 3/4 inch thick, 1 inch wide
and less than 2 inches long. there is a small bolt (10-12 mm hex head?)
fastening it to the block. a round black wire, less than 1/4 inch in diameter
exits one end and goes to a triple connector bracket on the firewall next to
ignition coil. i think the sensor end opposite the wire is rounded.
there are two other sensors on the driver's side of the transmission
bell housing and close to the engine block that look similar. i think
one is crank position sensor and the other might be speed sensor for the
speedo. i am open to refutation if anyone knows better.
