Dying Fuel Pumps
Probably the easiest solution to the dying fuel pump scenario is having a
fuel filter in the line BEFORE the pump. My 86 Cgt has one that was quite
full of crud when I bought it (it's that semi-transparent white plastic). I
have no idea what other model Audis may be similarly equipped, but this is an
item that is likely NOT changed with any regularity by most mechanics and car
owners. It's just kinda tucked up under the car next to the fuel pump where
no one is going to look, until the pump is bad.
Adding one to your car shouldn't be too difficult. Additionally, some cars
like SLAABS have the filter in the tank, or a sock on the pickup tube, etc.
All fuel is going to have some dirt in it, and most fuel tanks aren't spanky
clean either, I'd guess.
Anyone know what models have the pump pre-filter???
