Help w/ rear diff lock on 87 4KQ

Having some trouble w/ the rear diff lock on my 4KQ.  When my now-former
mechanic tried to replace the vacuum servo, he broke the lever that engages the
rear diff lock.  He said that a replacement part was available, but couldn't
give a time/cost estimate to replace it since he said he's never done one before
.  Any insight from those who may have had a similar problem?
