the last straw er...rod
C'est la mort, mes amis...
Apparently the stress caused to the lower end of my
engine when the valve dropped caused some damage that
was unseen. It's been running ok for the last few
days but then I heard a knocking sound. I swapped
the vacuum pump and even left out the rod, took off
the valve cover gasket and looked around, nothing.
So in the pouring rain I put it all together a
few hours ago and was getting ready to go back up
to my mechanic's house. One exit up the parkway I
started losing power so I wisely decided to get off.
Just past the exit, I heard a loud bang and smoke
from the engine compartment. Crap.
Open the hood, burn myself on the radiator in the process
(typing 1 handed sucks) and, oh yes, there it is,
a long piece of metal sticking out of the block.
Piston? Rod?
I am majorly pissed and bummed at this point. $750 later
I *still* don't have a running car. AARGH!
If anyone has leads on an engine (Chris?) or wants a really
nice 84 4ksq for a turbo conversion or maybe a large coffee
table, let me know. Contributions may be sent to the
address below in lieu of flowers :|
Jeez, and you thought the Audi gods were mad at *you*...
Hey, if it's true we have A of A folks on the list...
How about a new engine or a sweet deal on
another car in recognition for my efforts in promoting
the marque? (half kidding)
At least I did ok with my k75s purchase...
Have a nice weekend folks and think happy thoughts.
^%#$^$# car...
