Handbrake turns...

BTDT, somebody just posted a story of where the
emergency brake kept their car and possibly a
pedestrian in one piece. I concur that while
grabbing the handbrake to play is fun, it can also
be usefull in accident avoidance as well :-)

My story....

87 CRX HF (no harassing me for this little beast,
it was strictly an economic decision at the time, it
was the CRX or an escort diesel....yuck....)

Snowing on Route 3 North, (Mass.)about 25mph
with everybody about 15 feet at the most apart....
3 cars in front of me lockem up and crash into each
other.... there is no way I can stop whilst behind them,
breakdown is already full with people taking the next
exit, I cut left and the rear of the car was getting ready
to just hit the bumper of the car in front of me, I cut right
slightly and yanked the emergency brake. This slid the
rear to the right just missing the bumper. There was
definitely some potential for fudge in my pants after that
maneuver..... :-)
