If you have web cruising software, you can visit the BTCC site at:
http://www.demon.co.uk/racing
Go through the table of contents looking for the technical section. There is
an article entitled "What is a Super Touring Car" which should answer your
questions. The very short summary is:
- Mass produced (25,000 miminum run) 4-door family cars
- Bodyshell must be identical to production car; plus spoilers and wings
allowed
- 4.2 meter minimum length
- 2.0 L engine displacement limit; boring out or sleeving down permitted
- Engine must be mounted along the same axis as in the production application
- Engine need not be the same as that used in the 25,000 unit production run,
although 2,500 units of the engine must have been produced and used some-
where in the manufacturer's range.
- 8,500 rpm limit, no more than six cylinders, normal aspiration only
- Manual gearbox mandatory, six forward speeds maximum
- Drivetrain (front, rear, quattro) need not be that of the productin car,
but must
conform to the 2,500 unit minimum and be used in the manufactiurer's range
- Suspension "architecture" must be that of the production car
- Weight limits designed to equalize front (1000kg), rear (1025kg) and all
wheel
drive (1040kg) cars. 80 kg for driver weight added to the total for tech
inspection.
- Weights are subject ot mid-season change to equalize competition
- Unleaded fuel and catalytic convertors are mandatory
- The usual safety equipment; roll cages, fire extinguisher system,
harnesses...
