Cannot speak with authority on this one, but the Audi dealers I've spoken 
to assure me that the 1.8 is on the way and should be available by early 
Fall.  At least one list member has one on order.

As for the $5-6,000 bump.  Even though the A4 has met with great success 
a 20% increase in the base price of the car will kill the market.  Audi 
still has too much negative baggage in this country because of the CBS 
story as well as a reputation for finicky cars.  dont doubt there will be 
a price increase but unless every option were to become standard they 
could not sell another A4 in the US with that kind of increase.

One final point, anyone contemplating the purchase of a new A4 at $30k 
give or take a few bucks, is not entitled to reference himself as a 
"poor" college student.
