Replacing OEM Hydraulic tubing

Has anyone ever tried replacing the power steering or hydraulic
tubing with after market tubing bent and cut to length???

I cringe at the thought of paying $100 for a piece of accordian
shaped hydraulic tubing thats about a 1.5 ft long, 3/4 inch diameter,
with one right angle bend for my Coupe Q.  I figured that I could
get some tubing and bend up a piece myself (putting a spring on the
inside of the tubing so that it doesn't kink).

Comments??? Suggestions???
