Thermostat going bad?

I am on my knees praying to the Audi Gods.

Could my recent postings about my starter running at 250 amps when 
hot,(general opinion is that I need a new one) and a bad auto check 
system display be related to my temp display staying dead cold a good 
20 minutes after starting the car, then going up to normal levels?  
This has happened very infrequently, about 2-3 times in the last month 
and does display correct temperatures when working.  

Anything to worry about?  Could it be the thermostat or the gague?  
Acutally if its the gague, maybe I could take care of the auto system 
check and temp gague at the same time!  The Gods work in strange ways!
