Over the last 6 months or so my 145K mile 4KQ has developed two shifting
problems that my mechanic doesn't seem to have much idea about causes or fixes.

1. It's very stiff, high effort to shift, maybe 5+ pounds of force to get it
into any particular gear.

2. I have to push the pedal almost all the way to the floor to get it fully
disengaged, though it engages smoothly and positively. The amount of pedal
travel required seems excessive, much more than in past years.

Any suggestions?
