Yellow Audis

Hi Q-listers,

Sorry about my extremely late answer, but going through the stack of
digests I noticed a thread about yellow 80 coupes. This rang a bell with
me: I'd seen a picture of yellow 80s. It was in a German Audi 80/90 special
from Motor Presse Stuttgart called 'Der Hit'. It's not dated, but I think
it's from about 1988.
On page 94 there's a picture of a train full of yellow Audi 80s, with a
caption saying, translated from German: 'By special order, 30 yellow Audi
80s for the USA' The picture shows only 80 sedans, as far as I can see. It
seems that this colour was indeed available from the factory.
On first seeing this picture I thought 'Ugh, that's ugly' but seeing it
again, I actually quite like the colour. Yellow is all the rage over here
at the moment.
It's hardly subtle though, but neither is Mars Red or Tornado Red.

About the multicolour VWs: VW Holland currently markets a Polo Harlequin
(sub-Golf model) in the lurid *green/yellow/blue/red* colour scheme. The
general opinion on it is that VW is ahead of its time: most cars don't pick
up scrapyard panels in contrasting colours until late in their life. Easy
for crash repair though: just pick up a panel in any colour. It won't get
any uglier.
Haven't seen one on the road yet, which is a good thing.

Bye, Tom.
