Autoweek Audi comments
Latest from Autoweek does not have the A3 coming to the 'ol US of A. One of
the engines listed - the 150hp 1.8 turbo, later a reworked 174hp 24V 2.8
VR6. 2wd initially, quattro in '97. Good picture - not a shabby looking lil
hatchback there. Definitely better than that BMW thing... They did mention a
5 door model made in Brazil as a possible entry. Price of the coupe - $18K.
Mention is made of Audi's new aftermaket division - Quattro GmbH, and an RS
model - 252hp turbo 2.8 V6. Will someone please tell AofA to WAKE UP!!!
The A8 launch date is 15 October, no Tiptonic here (gass guzzler tax), 6
airbags (hey - seating for six, right???), 16" wheels standard, 17" optional
(lots more coffee tables there, huh Mike...). Expect "around" 60K for the
3.7 (2wd), 65K for 4.2 (quattro) - final pricing TBA in September. Bob Myers
will probably concur with the chemical reaction that occurs when you mix
Liquid Plumber and Aluminum...
BTW - The new XK8 is expected to sell here at "around" 60K... Far be it from
me to anger the Gods, BUT!
