Glad you got out of this!  Sounds to me like this guy was riding in 
your blind spot or you would have probably seen him - in that case, 
he gets no sympathy from me.  (Any driver not suffering a serious 
rectal/cranial inversion should know better than to travel in 
someone's blind spot.)

If he wasn't there, no big difference - you had to do what you did!  
When one is following or overtaking another car, one MUST drive in 
such a manner as to allow for that driver's actions.  If we don't - 
then we pay the bill.
