Scum Shield
Took the front end of my TQ apart last night to see just how badly I tore apart
my suspension & steering this winter (it looked real pretty, lemme tell ya -
bent everything it seems.) I've had this really obnoxious grating sound coming
from the right front end for the better part of three months, just never had
the time to bother looking before. I found that the shield behind the rotor
had been crushed (probably when the heap fell off the jack back in March during
one of my multiple wheel changes) & was grinding against the rotor. The metal
had about worn thru in all the places it was touching... Oops. Anyhow, it's
now in the garbage, & this weekend I'll be heading to the local boneyard to get
a replacement. Unless - is there any real detriment to leaving hte thing off?
I've got to get better brake cooling with them off, but I'm also guessing
those guys do a good job of keeping mud & snow out of the wheel. Then again,
I'm running 17" wheels (two of 'em anyhow) so maybe those things are useless
now anyway? Basic question is, do I replace it or rip off the other one...
