Deadc Battery

Joe,

This could be my 87 TQCS5000. Symptoms are dead on, which also falls in with
my theory of parallel lives (we just have different names)

1. Check all grounds, one at battery and one in engine compartment off the
block.

2. Check alternator belt.

3. have alternator checked for PEEK OUTPUT you need the amps reading s/b 90
or damn close to it.

I think I fnally solved mined (knock on wood), my alternator output was
intermittent with respect to peak amps, finally tested it when it was not
producing as the problem persisted for months. Car would be fine for weeks,
then after a long drive it would be dead the next day. I'd put the trickle
charger on and it would be fine for another 2 months. Eventually the low
output killed the battery, which when replaced we again checked the alt.
output and found it to be low. New alt. so far, so good. If volts is a
stream of water, think of amps as the volume of the stream.

Best of luck,

Audi, a great car, a great hobby!
