I feel like I should be getting a kickback for free promotion here. The
shop is Tim Smith inc. 176 Sheridan avenue, Albany NY. He supposedly
specializes in Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and BMW but I've seen everything
European in there. He's *very* fair and a good mechanic. Not an Audi
specialist, but he will tell you if he can't fix it. I took in the Q there over
the winter, I was getting a "low oil pressure" warning from the LCD and the
gauge was reading low. He told me that it was possible a bad sending unit, but
he wasn't sure. He didn't have the wiring diagram either, but he said he'd
check it out best he could. Had it all day long.... I come and get it in the
evening and he tells me it was "bad oil" of some sort. BAD OIL? I ask.. yep.
Charge, $0.00. I changed the oil, and sure enough, the presssure problem went
away. :) He tightened up my alternator belt for free once again too. Said he'd
get me another time for it. My father likes the guy enough, that when he comes
up to Albany for business meetings (a drive of 3.5hrs) he has service done.
Last time it was the timing belt and water pump. This time, he gave the Q to me
and I had the CV boot and Oil line replaced. Good mechanic. I recommend him but
the usual disclaimers apply.
