Alignment Questions
Coming home from the beach yesterday, I blew out the last of my tires, so it's
time to fix something. Car is now running on the donut, two 17's, one stock
15. So, I hafta re-build the suspension & steering this week, then have it
aligned. Since fixing my 17's would set me back around $600, and mounting my
snows to my stock 15's would set me back $16, I'll be taking the cheaper route.
Now, the car is in dire need of an alignment, so after rebuilding the front
end, it will be aligned, with 4 snow tires on. Will I have to have the car
re-aligned when I win the lottery & fix my 17's, or is an alignment good for
any wheel/tire? I guess the question is, does the dealer align the car to the
car, or to the wheels? Next question, in exactly four weeks (Monday, 15 July
1996) the TQ will be driving from DC to Boulder, so 2,000 miles approximately.
Will 2,000 miles on snow tires screw the alignment? Or vibrate something to
pieces on the car? They aren't aggresize snow's (Dunlop M&S Qualifier, I
think) so I'm guessing I'll be fine, but snows were meant to run in the winter,
not on hundred degree days across country... Another question, will running
snow tires on hot asphalt ruin the tires? Maybe the compound is designed to
not be run over a certain temperature? Hopefully not... TIA for any advice!
