Ooooh, that hurts. I'm trying to maintain a sense of humour about the 
whole thing but what really kills me is that on Saturday I even phone to 
check on the price for a reman. water pump. That was before I started 
putting things back together again. 

My logic was, I want to replace or rebuild this engine some time over the 
next year or two and I would be replacing the water pump at that time 
anyway. So why buy it twice???? Anyway, it's been suggested that the 
noise could be me idler pulley. I'll have to take the timing cover off 
and listen again.
