Been there, done that. I've spent the spring researching new tires
to replace my aging Comp T/A VR4s. They were (are) great all season
tires, but the price tag is a little too steep for me.
The choices were:
Comp T/A VR4: $89
Comp T/A HR4: $72
Dunlop D60A2: $60
After a test drive and much research, I've decided that the Dunlops
are the way to go. They grip pretty well, last a long time, and are
quieter than the Comp T/As. Cheaper, too.
And, there is no need for snow tires. I get both quattros around
just fine all winter skiing with my family on the all-seasons.
Some might disagree, but I think they are fine. If you run a set
of summer-only performance tires, that's a different story.
