Mike:

Whenever I've had a need to push the shaft out of the hub I go by
the local, friendly SuperTrak and used one of their loaner tools. 
Everyone I've been to carries Hub Pullers.  Big, heavy duty looking
thing that you attach using your lug bolts.  Works great.
