Re: Axel Shaft Pulling Exercises...

Mr. Bentley says you need to use a "VW Tool xxxx" to get the axel shaft
out.
Well, I don't own "VW Tool xxxx" nor do I have any intention of buying it,
so
how do I get the axel shaft out? There's gotta be a shortcut, anyone know
it?
I've got a harmonic balancer puller for a Chebby V8, any way of mutating
that
tool into something that will push the axel shaft out (or am I asking for
trouble there?) Any & all tips anyone can provide for this lovely exercise
will be _greatly_ appreciated! Hopefully when I'm done the car will
actually
steer in the direction I tell it to...

Unless you are doing something I'm not aware of, the axle will come out
without using the 10MM triple square on the trans end (tho available pretty
easily, I saw the "Help!" part kit 6,8,10MM for 5.00 at JC whinny)....
Loosen axle nut on ground, pull all the ancillary stuff off (ball joint
swaybar/control arm, tie rod) and the strut will pull away from the car
enough to pull the axle out.... You can drop the whole strut assbly as a
unit with the outer 3 nuts at the strut tower, without even affecting your
camber..... Remember to pull the abs sensors (and get the plastic aligning
tips)
