Now for my comments:
There's got to be many more than just 5 out there. I know of 3 in Illinois,
1 in Mass., now 1 in Minn. Dealers do not want to give up their cars not
because of the belief that they will get above MSRP. Remember they generally
trade cars among themselves at wholesale prices. Unless they receive a car
with better potential margins, when they trade a car at wholesale they loose
the profit potential on that car. Their only gain as I see it is to
eliminate their floorplan costs. Another fact to consider from a guy who
review the books of an import car dealer several years ago is that car
dealers make their money from service - they tend to breakeven selling cars.
Sounds strange but they are selling cars so that they have a customer for at
least the warranty period. So again the dealer will hold on to the car (ie
lie to other dealers that the car is sold) in hopes of selling it LOCALLY at
a price above their wholesale price. Of course, if they can't sell it
locally they sell it anywhere as long as the price is above the wholesale
price - look at all the ads in Autoweek.
With all that in mind - I did post a request the other day for information
about anyone knowing a dealer who has a 95.5 S6 in Europa Bule or Green. I
should have also said I'm interested in a sedan not a wagon.
