Re: 86-88 TQW rear discs?

In a message dated 96-06-20 09:41:47 EDT, you write:

tell ya that when I replaced every brake component on the rear of my '87
5kTQ
Sedan in March, I found that the Sedan's use the 36mm calipers, while the
wagons used the 38mm calipers. The calipers were on a national backorder
from
every vendor I talked to. Ordering them loaded (calipers, carriers, pads)
was
the only way I could get 'em. Rotors on the Sedan's are solid, no vents
here... Good luck finding the 38mm calipers. If you _can_ find 'em, you
won't
be able to afford them, because the core (which you won't have if you're not
currently using the 38's) will cost you more than the actual calipers will.
Incedentally, Beck Arnley is the way to fly with rebuilt calipers.

The 38mm rear calipers were a running change in 1988.... I was willing to
pay the core from my brake guy.... No luck, nationally..... not a
worthwhile upgrade.... Cross drill the stocks if you want to, but the
amount of braking back there begs the why question unless you are towing
something...
