Two things Paul,

The lower voltage coil will work fine for your trouble shooting.
You may want a later 60Kv model later for actual performance.

Second,  the rotation of the distributor is very critical for
startup.  It won't fire without precise alignment.  You
wanna connect a battery charger, have one person crank,
while the other slews the distributor.  Don't crank too
long of course.  Good Luck.
