A guess: The distributor is not properly aligned. The signal from the hall
sender is ANDed with the Crankshaft location signal, so that the spark is
guarranteed to occur within a reasonable timing window. If the distributor
body is turned so that the two signals do not overlap, - no spark. The
ignition timing does not depend on the oriention of the distributor, except
that it must be in approximatly the right place. If it is, the ecu controls
the timing, if the distributor is rotated too far out of alignment, the
system is locked out.
