Euro 5000 sighted in MA?

A few days ago I spotted this clean looking 5k TQ driving ahead of me. I 
sped up to get a closer look, and noticed a 200 badge, and a tow hook 
protruding through the lower right of the rear bumper. Now if I'm 
mistaken here let me know, but every VW I've seen w/ a tow hook there has 
been European. Did US 5k receiev this towhook? The car also had the 
sqaured off rear fenders, and some sticker in ther window, it was german 
and had the year 1984, championship year for Audi at the Rallyes correct?

Anyway, if the car was greymarket or somthing were many imported?

Sorry if this is a waste of bandwidth, but I'm curious.
