Coolant temp gauge problem solved

Hey Y'all,

There have been several recently who have reported a malfunctioning (read
dead) coolant temperature gauge (myself among 'em).

Mine has been fixed. :-) The temperature gauge now works once more.

This may or may not be the same problem others are having, but mine was
caused by broken - actually corroded away - wires inside the connector to
the thermo-switch. If you peel back the rubber boot around the connector,
the wires behind are exposed. This boot will collect and hold leakage from
the cooling system resulting in some rather severe corrosion of the copper
wiring. Folks, I wouldn't have believed the amount of corrosion I found if
I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. :-(

The fix: cut off the old connector and solder in a replacement.

The temporary patch until the new connector arrives: cut off the old
connector, strip the wires and crimp on female 1/4 inch spade lug connectors
and attach them to the proper places on the bottom of the thermo-switch.

BTW, the original switch had four connetions. The replacement ($50 + s/h
from Linda) has only three. S'alright, it only needs three. My old one
probably works OK, but, well...

Thanks to all who provided information and offered swap parts for testing.

If anyone needs the color code and pin out info for the wiring, I have it
for you.
