Second gear

Anthony Attard asked about a bad second gear synchro.  In my earlier
correspondence, several others indicated they had also had a problem or two.
Being the recipient of a rather large repair bill caused by a bad synchro I am
quite interested in any other similar experiences.

If you have had trouble with a manual tranny please let me know, along with a
few details:

Car type, quattro or non-quattro, year, miles, costs/actions taken.

To Anthony:  If you really think it's your synchro failing, then get it
fixed/checked/swapped out NOW.  Trust me, you don't want to pay for the chain
reaction failure.
