V6 update
Hello. This past weekend I just passed the 80k mile mark on my 93 100S.
That's a lot of miles, but there is nothing to do in suburban Maryland
near College Park where I got to school. So I have to drive everywhere.
And I have relatives at Myrtle Beach and New York so I have to drive
along the East Coast alot too.
I just wanted to know if someone else on the list had a high mileage 2.8 V6
like mine and if they had experienced any major problems past that mark.
Incase anyone is interested the engine still feels fresh and pulls
eagerly to the redline on occasions when I feel perturbed or inspired.
On empty roads at night I occasionally take it to 110 mph and it feels
rock solid...actually I think the car feels better at high speeds than
more pedestrian speeds. It still idles very smoothly...but I do hear
some lifter noises now and then.
As for up keep I did all the usual oil and fluid changes (usually on
time). I had to get the oil pump replaced when the car hit 70k miles. I
didn't notice any oil leakage but when I took the car in for routine
check up at HBL Audi they said my oil pump was about to expire. They also
made me replace the water pump and the timing belt while I was at it.
Only modification done to the car was adding a K&N filtercharger system
from Schaumberg. I'm planning to get the throttlebody and a Remus exhaust
system with the twin 90 mm tips (Yippee!) The roads in Wash D.C. SUCK! So
I don't think I will be getting any 17" wheels. (Thanks Mike Spiers for
sharing your pains with us!) But I do want to reduce the hideous fender
gap a bit.
Hopefully the car will hold up til the new A6 comes out. And hopefully
the new A6's will offer a V8 (ala BMW 540).
happy motoring!
p.s. When you feel stressed load up your cd changers and take a short road
trip through some scenic sights. Does wonders for your stress!
