'86 4kQ surging at idle

--My '86 4kCSQ surges at idle after hard driving,  three or four times w/in
a 350RPM range, then settles down.My mechanic said "Probably the idle
motor". Is there another name for the idle motor? Is it the same as the
oxygen sensor, which seems to be blamed for surging problems in 5cyl.
engines on this list? I'm new to this car, and I'm going to start doing as
much of my own work as I can. Anyone have any suggestions?
