There was formerly a scheduled service at 1000 miles, consisting of an oil
change and general look around.  It was discontinued _during_ the current
model year. The latest service books were revised to reflect the first
scheduled service now at 7,500 miles (and at 7,500 mile intervals
thereafter).  Anybody who bought a car before May or so of this year will
find a 1,000 mile service recommendation in the service book.
