radio with the antenna trimmer the radio will show the same effect as no
signal. in some radios the trimmer is accessible through the cassette slot.
it uses a standard small screwdriver. tune to a barely audible station
around am 1400-1600 and adjust the trimmer for max volume. the result can be
so good that you often have to choose a new weak station and continue.
changing your antenna would require this procedure.

i agree with eric. the most common cause of poor reception is the antenna
