Dem's fightin' words! I can't agree with you on the S4. Though the I5
turbo on the S4 has to haul 800 lb more of car, it produces vastly more
torque than the Nissan V6 3 liter. 0-60 and 30-70 tests on both cars bear
this out, the S4 is faster (I've never been in a turbo car with less lag
than the S4). In addition, a turbo engine provides much greater tuning
potential.
About smoothness, I have to concede. But remember, the I-5 was unveiled in
1976! The Nissan is a new engine. A V-6 is also inherently smoother. A
better comparison would be to the Audi V-6 which is well known for it's
smoothness, and whose 5 valve version produces more torque and more
horsepower than the Nissan, even though it is a 2.8 liter design.
