Re: BMW owners...

It was written...

Yup. Whereas BMW owners are automatons who don't really know why they are
doing it (unlike MB owners, who absolutely have no idea what goes on in
the car, except knowing that spending money is good),...

...

As a former BMW owner ('70 2002), I'll chime in that this was not
always true. Before the advent of the 3-series, most of us tried
mightily to keep our Bimmers from (1) rusting away, (2) overheating (I
spent many a summer riding around with the heater on, temperature
guage running about 1/2 needle width from red zone), (3) rusting
away... The BMWCCA Roundel was a gold mine of information for keeping
your car going. They were simple cars with glorious engines and
transmissions. And we even fought our share of bad electrical grounds
(flakey fuel guages). But it was the *rust* that got most of us.

I think we somewhat resented the newer Bimmers with their refined
nature.

Luckily, the Audi allows me to relive some of those days (without the
rust, thank you). But I suspect some of those Ur-q owners look down on
those 5000tq owners and their "trouble-free" cars, the way the 5000tq
owners look down on the A4q owners and their "gizmo'd" cars.

Enough pontificating for the afternoon...back to regularly scheduled
programming....
