On my '84 4000sq, the tachometer will sometimes whirl over to the pin
or just wander around aimlessly.  Then, all of a sudden, it works
fine.  It seems to be temperature dependent.  Done it since I bought
the car new.  I suspect a cold solder joint somewhere in the guts of
the tach or a bad trace on the flexible PWB in the instrument cluster,
but have never fixed it.  Hey...it's an Audi...
