FWIW, I had Potenzas on a Mazda Protege. Best damn tires in water I've
ever seen. In any kind of water the car would track like it was on rails. In 4
years I may have hydroplaned once. So steady, in fact, that I'd
head for puddles on the side of the highway just to see how high a
rooster tail I could get. Quite stupid if there's hidden potholes, but
fun nonetheless....
I've never tried Aquatred or other specialized water tires, so grain-of-salt.
Their snow performance was pretty good. They'd slip when
starting in over 1/2 inch of snow and would get stuck in about 3
inches or more, requiring Drive/Reverse jogging to get unstuck.
But, never got totally stuck and difficult to get them into a power
slide when at speed 8-(
<anecdote alert> I only abandoned getting out of the driveway once. In the
winter of '93-94 in NJ, there were 6" of fresh snow over ice. Admitted defeat
after 20 minutes of my wife telling me it'll never get out of the driveway.
Took 2 seasons for my wife to forget that one :-)
